Map Courses Description Directions
Saturday, Catalina State Park

 • Long advanced

• Short advanced

• All-comers 90min Score-O

Today there are two options for advanced-level, traditional point-to-point courses (red/brown) as well as a score course with a 90-minute time limit. The score course provides as much challenge as you'd like, so it is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced orienteers.

Picnic Area Ramada at Catalina State Park. The State Park day-use fee is about $7 per car.

Sunday, Ironwood Picnic Area

• Long advanced

• Short advanced

This beautiful bajada terrain allows for very fast running. Don't let it trip you up! The only options today are advanced point-to-points courses.  Start/Finish at the end of the road for the Ironwood Picnic Area of Tucson Mountain Park.
Monday, Box Canyon • 2hr Score-O There will be approximately 20-controls  scattered across a 5 square kilometer area. The controls will have different point values. Orienteers can go to as many or as few as they wish, but they must be back within 2 hours. Anyone over the 2 hour limit will suffer severe point penalties. Controls near the start/finish are set at an easy level of difficulty (yellow-ish), most of the others are set at an intermediate level of difficulty (orange-ish), and a few further out are set at an advanced level of difficulty (green-ish). This should allow those of all skill  levels to have plenty to do.... from a 1k easy walk to the fully monte. The course-setters figure the optimum route to get all controls will be about 9k with a little over 300 meters of climb.  AZ Trail Trailhead along Box Canyon Rd. Take Rt 83 south from I-10 to

Sign up: Use this signup form to register for some or all of the events.

Schedule each day:

  • 09:00am:  First time to start (you'll pick your start slot when you sign up)
  • 11:00am:  Last time to start
  • 1:00pm:  Courses close

Check-In: To insure that all are safe, everyone, whether finished with the course or not, must check in formally at Start/Finish before courses close and before leaving the event site.

Fees:  The event costs are as listed in this chart.  Every person (all courses, all events) is required to carry some type of safety whistle so please bring a whistle or purchase one when you arrive.

Water: There will be NO water on the courses or at start/finish. You are expected to bring your own water.

Terrain: Catalina State Park is hilly rugged desert. Long pants recommended. Ironwood picnic area is smoother, almost flat bajada terrain. Long pants are probably still a good idea. Box Canyon is at around 5000' and mostly grassland with scattered trees (mostly oaks) but there is occasional cat claw and other sticker bushes, so long pants are still recommended!

Youth participants: All participants under 18 must provide a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.  If you plan to bring a minor without their parent/guardian, then please download a copy of the Waiver and Permission to Participate form from our Documents, Guides, and Forms page (look for it under the "For Orienteers" section) and have it completed and signed by a parent/guardian before you bring it with you to the event.  For more details, see our article about the waiver form for minors.

Friend-For-Free: Members may invite one guest for free to this event.  For details and restrictions, click here.
