On Sunday June 6, 2021 there will be Score-O at Udall Park. Two courses will be offered, short and long.

Map: The map will be a USGS orthophoto (similar to an aerial photograph). It will show all the paths, trees, vegetation and structures in the park.

Clues: Instead of control markers and punches, at each control circle your clue sheet will ask a question. All you need to do is provide the correct answer based on the clue. There will be no riddles or tricks, the correct answer will be obvious if you are at the control.

Short Course: All the controls on the short course will be in the northern part of the park. The park area is developed with ball fields, paved paths, structures, etc. You can visit any or all of the approximately 12 short course controls as long as you are back within 1 hour. Most adults can briskly walk the 2.1km to all the controls in 30 minutes, or perhaps 45 minutes for those who want to walk slower or who have younger kids. Kids 9 and under should go with an older person. The park and the course are kid-friendly enough that kids 10 and older can go it alone on the short course if they wish.

Long Course: The long course will include all the short course controls plus additional controls in the open desert area south of the main park, which are more difficult to navigate. The desert area is mostly flat but does have several small ravines in the southwestern part. There is a network of trails-of-use which are visible on the orthophoto. Most controls are on or near one of those indistinct trails. You can visit any or all of the approximately 30 controls as long as you are back within 1 hour. Total distance to get all controls will be 4.4km.

Time Limit 1 Hour: There will be a stiff point penalty if you come in over an hour on either course.

Directions and Parking: Udall Park is on the southeast corner of Tanque Verde and Sabino Canyon roads.  Enter the park at the west entrance off Sabino Canyon Road. Start/finish will be at Ramada #7 which is the first ramada on your right There is some parking near the ramada, and more within 200 meters. See parking map.
