Summer has arrived in the Sonoran Desert, and with it we'll get to do some early morning orienteering at Greasewood Park on Sunday, June 16.  The course will be a score-O where you may visit up to 32 permanent concrete post markers marked on a detailed color map.  At each concrete post marker you will write down the code you see marked on it.  Each correct code earns 10 points.  You'll have 90 minutes to find as many of the concrete posts as you possibly can, with a 10-point penalty for each minute (or part of) that you go overtime.

The 1:5000-scale Greasewood map is an easy read and the terrain is fun to navigate on.  With a keen reading of this map and a smart following of trails and landmarks, the fastest of you should be able to clean up the entire course in well under the 90 minute allotted time!

You may download a copy of the Greasewood Park map showing the concrete post markers from our Permanent Courses page to plan your route in advance, or you can wait until you show up at our registration table where you will be given your map to look at "off the clock" before you start your course.  If you think it will help, you can pre-program a GPS unit and use it for this event.  The only thing you are NOT allowed to do is actually visit the concrete post markers in person to view its markings (or have someone do it for you) before you show up for this event - as that wouldn't be fair!

If you are a member of our club, you may invite one guest for free to this event.  For details and restrictions, click here.

The meet director for this event is Mike Thompson.   Call Mike at (520) 743-8161 or email him at oclubmike (-at-) gmail (-dot-) com if you have questions.  Please offer to help out with registration, timing, or control retrieval.  The fees collected at each event only cover the costs for permits, insurance, transportation, map printing, supplies, and equipment used at the event.  They don’t cover planning, organizing, or running the event.   It is only through the generous volunteer effort of us club members by which these events can happen!

Water:  June is the hottest and driest month of the year at Greasewood Park.  Unless we have a chubasco on event day (rare for this time of year) there won't be any water on the course so be sure you bring your own!
