About the Event
This is a special event just for youth & junior orienteers, from ages 8-18. Bring your scout troop, homeschool group, or family to learn the basic skills needed to complete an orienteering course. Then, on Sunday, join us for a regular orienteering event! Camping is available Friday and Saturday nights at the Flycatcher Group Area.
Location: Catalina State Park, Flycatcher Group Area
Courses: A variety of training activities suitable for children and teens at the beginner and intermediate level. We’ll also have Animal Orienteering for kids under 8 who aren’t yet ready to read maps!
Maps: Maps will be provided to all participants at the event site.
Schedule:
8:00am - 8:30am Check in
Finish around lunch time!
Registration: Pre-registration is required so that we know how many maps and instructors we need. Please fill out this form to let us know you’re interested. Registration for Sunday’s event is separate, please see the event page for information on how to register. Also use the form above to reserve a camping space at the Flycatcher area ($20/night/vehicle).
Directions and Parking: Flycatcher Group Area at Catalina State Park. There is a $7 entry fee to enter the park. Once inside, follow signs to the group camping areas.
What to Bring:
Safety whistle is required (whistles can be purchased on site for $1)
Water (and snacks if desired)
Watch or phone (so you can finish on time)
Fees:
Each group/family: $10, plus $2 for each orienteer (animal-o is free for kids under 8)
Camping (optional): $20/night/vehicle, available Friday and Saturday nights
Youth Participants: All participants under 18 must provide a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. For details see our Instructions for Minors. These instructions are for anyone who will be bringing a minor child under 18 to an event.
Volunteer to Help at Event: We can always use volunteer help at the event. Don’t worry if you haven’t volunteered before, we can show you. You can volunteer when registering online. Or you can volunteer here, and your message will be forwarded to the meet director.
