Come join us Sunday, October 9 for a day of orienteering at Kentucky Camp.  You’ll be running through the foothills of the Santa Rita mountains at about 5000 feet elevation.  Temperatures at this time of year are really pleasant.  The area is very open with scattered trees, bushes, spiky chollas, and small patches of thorny cat claw.  Long pants are recommended since the courses will require navigation through knee high grass at some point. This grassland area is quite beautiful and the ride to the meet site down route 83 is designated as a Scenic Byway.   The ghost town, Kentucky Camp is on the map and is worth a visit.  The Arizona Trail also passes through the area.

Courses: The format for the meet will be a Score-O.  You have the option of choosing a 1,2 or 3 hour course. The level of difficulty of the various points will range from very easy to difficult. You will of course have your choice of which ones you wish to visit.  There will be water controls on the course and there will be some water at the start/finish/registration area, but please bring a little more than you think you will consume.

Large groups:  If you are planning to bring a large group of more than five people, please let the course setter (Larry Pedersen: rlpederse (<at>) misericordia (<dot>)  edu) know so that we can reserve enough maps for you.

Youth Groups: All participants under 18 must provide a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.  If your group plans to bring a minor without their parent/guardian, then please download a copy of the Waiver and Permission to Participate form from our Documents, Guides, and Forms page (look for it under the "For Orienteers" section) and have it completed and signed by a parent/guardian before you bring it with you to the event.  For more details, see our article about the waiver form for minors.
